On the occasion of the 93rd Saudi National Day on 23 September, Project Masam’s Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi, extended his congratulations to the leadership and people of the great Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“On this occasion I extend my congratulations, thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince, and to the Saudi people. I congratulate you on this national day, which is celebrated by everyone. It is the national day of the ambitious Saudi people, who have great dreams that are always fulfilled by our great government.”

Algosaibi said Saudi Arabia is keen on making countless humanitarian achievements, saying: “Our Kingdom has launched and continues to establish huge humanitarian projects that have taken us to a global level in a very short time. Among the projects we talk about is the landmine clearance Project Masam in Yemen, which constitutes a small part of the humanitarian projects carried out by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia worldwide.”

Project Masam: A life-saving project

Algosaibi touched on Saudi Arabia’s achievements at the humanitarian level in Yemen, saying: “In June 2018, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) launched Project Masam in Yemen, which represents the great Saudi Leadership’s bold and ambitious vision.”

Algosaibi also said in this context: “Project Masam was launched to enable the Yemeni people to live in peace; secured against the danger of the Houthi landmines and their atrocities, particularly in the populated and high-impact areas. The landmine threats are a complex and long-term problem, yet thanks to God and then to the efforts, experiences, and energies of Project Masam’s members, a huge work has been accomplished over five years of perseverance. And today we still have the same determination to succeed for the sixth year in a row, so that Project Masam will become one of the most important and prominent humanitarian projects not only in the Arab region but also in the entire world.”

The Managing Director added: “The Project’s first bold step was taken in 2017 according to which it started to demine Yemeni territories regardless of the ongoing war in order to protect the Yemeni people from landmines. The project has succeeded despite all the difficulties we faced in the beginning which we managed to overcome. A number of our staff were killed and injured, but we were also able to have a positive impact in all the various Yemeni areas in which the project worked. Now, we see the displaced returning to their villages, farmers re-cultivating their lands after being completely cleared of mines, many grazing areas witnessing the usual activities, vast coastal stretches secured against landmines, fishermen returning to their fishing activities, and students returning to their schools and classrooms which were heavily planted with mines. We have contributed to the reconstruction of the infrastructure which was hindered because of the indiscriminate spread of landmines, and water sources also have become safe to use. Project Masam has also contributed to demining vital facilities, which paved the way for bringing life back to normal in several areas in Yemen.”

Algosaibi concluded by saying: “Today, Project Masam is going on with its humanitarian landmine clearance mission in Yemen; striving to reveal the landmine problem to the whole world through its media office and team. The world must know the danger of the mines and the size of the disaster in Yemen because of these deadly devices. For its part, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia did not and will not spare any effort in supporting the Yemeni people in this ordeal, as the Yemeni people and the Saudi people share the same destiny. Once again, I extend my congratulations to our great Kingdom on its National Day and tell my fellow citizens that our dreams will surely be fulfilled by our great leadership.”
