Project Masam Team 26 clears 13 schools in Al-Khawkhah and Hays

As Houthi militias continue planting landmines across occupied area of Yemen, Project Masam has succeeded in clearing 13 schools in Al-Khawkhah and Hays districts of Hodeidah Governorate.

Project Masam Team 26 said that, of the 13 schools it has cleared of landmines, seven were completely destroyed and six were partially damaged due to the landmines  planted by the militias – which brought the educational process to a halt.

The mines affected 5,970 male and female students, as many schools stopped. In addition, a large number of educational staff was forced into displacement to other areas or other regions. Students and educators also suffered from sporadic injuries to do landmine accidents.

The cleared schools, which were partially damaged, include five schools in Hays district and one in Al-Khawkhah . They are:

  • Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr in the village of Mahal Al-Rabi’ with 400 students enrolled
  • Tariq bin Ziyad in the village of Hilla, with 450 students enrolled
  • Al-Nasr in the village of Beit Bish, with 400 students enrolled
  • Al-Farouq in the village of Al-Hasab, with 500 students enrolled
  • Omar bin Al-Khattab in the village of Al-Maqani’, with 300 students enrolled
  • Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq School in the village of Al-Dahiya (Al-Khawkhah district), which has provides education to 400 students

Cleared schools, which were destroyed, include four schools in Hays:

  • Al-Nour in the village of Al-Ron, which has 300 students
  • Al-Kifah in the village of Al-Humaniya, which has 370 students
  • Al-Wa’i in the village of Rabat, which has 800 students
  • Al-Qadisiyah in the village of Al-Uqda, in which 350 students are enrolled

Additionally, they also includes three schools in Al- Khawkhah District:

  • Al-Shaab school in the village of Dar Al-Alam, with 600 students enrolled
  • Al-Salam school in the village of Bani Fartout, which has 300 students,
  • Othman bin Affan school in the village of Al-Qudaibah, where 800 students receive an education

Civilians thanked Project Masam for its efforts with regards to clearing Yemeni schools of indiscriminately and extensively planted landmines, and bringing safety back to the afflicted areas so that their children can resume their studies.
