In response to a report filed by a civilian, Project Masam’s Survey Team launched a surveyance and clearance operation in the pastures in Al-Darb area of Harib district, south of Yemen’s Marib governorate.
Since the conflict between Yemen’s pro-government forces and Houthi militias escalated in 2014, liberated strategic areas have been left cluttered with anti-personnel mines and anti-tank mines, along with unexploded explosive remnants of war (ERW).
In a statement, the leader of the Survey Team confirmed that his team is currently working to re-survey and secure the grazing areas in Al-Darb area in heavily-landmine contaminated Harib, after a report was filed by civilians regarding the presence of landmines found by sheep herders.
The leader of the Survey Team praised the mine awareness of the civilians in Harib, as well as their response to the instructions provided by Project Masam teams not to tamper with mines, not to enter or walk on any areas that Masam teams have not yet secured, out of concern for their safety.
Nasser Ahmed Al-Ajdaa, a resident of the area, thanked Project Masam for the prompt response to the report they submitted.
He stressed that the work of the Masam’s demining teams in Harib district had a great role in normalising life and reducing civilian casualties, brought by densely and indiscriminately landmines planted by the Houthi militia in all areas and public roads in Harib district.
The district was under Houthi control before Yemeni government troops sought to seize control of the strategic area in early 2022.
