Project Masam’s Team 26 has announced the full clearance of an anti-tank minefield in the outskirts of Hays district, south of Yemen’s Al-Hodeidah Governorate, one of the most heavily mined areas in the country.
The leader of Masam Team 26 confirmed in a statement that his team was able to deactivate a minefield planted by the Houthis in Sha’ab Bani Zuhair, which is less than three kilometres west of the centre of Hays district.
The team leader said that the team received a report from local civilians stating that two children recognised a minefield while they were grazing sheep, as they noticed a landmine left over by the Houthi militia, adding that part of this mine was uncovered by the torrential rains.
Despite the successes achieved by the engineering teams of Masam project in removing and deactivating huge quantities of landmines as well as clearing vast areas in the locality, the minefields of Houthi militia still represent an everyday deadly threat for the people of Al-Hodeidah Governorate, as a week hardly passes without casualties among the civilians.
