Masam removes 30 landmines after two children killed and one injured in mine explosion

Two children were killed and another one was injured on Tuesday evening (February 14), when an anti-tank mine, planted by the Houthi militia, exploded in Al-Raba’ Al-Hadrami area, east of Hays district, Al-Hodeidah governorate.
In a statement, the leader of Project Masam’s Team 25, engineer Ayman Jawas, confirmed that the two children Mufeed Muhammad Zarah and Yaqoub Nazhan, were killed in the explosion of an anti-tank mine that had been converted into a victim-activated anti-personnel mine by the addition of a pressure plate.
In the meantime, another child, Abdul-Malik Hassani, was wounded while the children were walking on a side road to play football, near their residential area in Hays.
Jawas added that, after Team 25 received a report of the explosion, the deminers immediately dispatched to the site of the accident. The children were tended to by medics, but sadly two died in situ. Little Abdul-Malik is currently being treated for this injuries.
Immediately after pulling out the victims and conducting a survey of the incident site, the leader of Team 25 confirmed his team discovered and removed 30 anti-tank mines and an exploding mortar shell.
Jawam added that work is still underway to fully secure the surrounding area of the explosion site.
