Project Masam for Landmine Clearance in Yemen executed an operation to destroy and detonate 1089 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices in the region of Bab Al Mandab, in the western coast.
In an exclusive interview with Masam’s media office, the project’s Managing Director Mr Ousama Algosaibi confirmed that the destruction operation included 235 landmines, 24 anti-personnel landmines, 476 shells and unexploded ordnance in addition to 354 fuses and capsules.
Algosaibi indicated that the destruction operation executed by team 30 (specialized in shells collection), is the 3rd operation in June, which brings the total of destruction operations executed so far in the western coast to 20 destruction and detonation operations.
Project Masam works in the western coast with 16 engineering teams, deployed in the directorates of “Bab Al Mandab, Al Makha, Al Khokha, Dhabab, Muazza’a, Al Wazi’iya, Al Durayhimi, Hays, in addition to Kirsh directorate in Lahij province, and the directorates of Mukayras and Qa’ataba in Ad Dali’ province.
In conlusion, project Masam’s engineering teams were able to clear – since the launch of the project until now – more than 170 thousand landmines and unexploded ordnance from 8 Yemeni liberated provinces.
