After a long period spent away from his farm, an older Yemeni man has finally been able to set foot on his land, which had been heavily contaminated by landmines.
The older man, who we chose not to identify, confirmed that landmines had been extensively planted across his farm before Project Masam travelled to his land to clear it following a report.
“Thank you, Project Masam. Many thanks to your great efforts and sacrifices, you generous members of Project Masam,” the older man told Project Masam.
“Thanks to you, my land has been cleared and now I can start working on it.
“How sad and heartbroken was I when the rain fell heavily while I was unable to approach my farm, which had been heavily laid with landmines by the [Houthi] militias.
“Your efforts saved my land and me. May God bless you all”.
The presence of landmines meant that the man could not cultivate his field, and no one was able to approach the area due to fears landmines could be triggered.
Thanks Project Masam’s demining teams, the farm has now been fully cleared, and the older man said he is looking towards a happier future.
By clearing essential areas and facilities, Project Masam allows those displaced by landmines to return to their homes, villages, communities and livelihoods without worries.
