Project Masam has carried out a clearance operation using the TJET500 pyrotechnic torch technique to burn a number of dangerous and decayed landmines in Bani Zuhair area, west of Hays district in Al Hudeidah governorate.
The destruction operation, which was carried out by Masam’s special task team, included three decayed landmines, which posed a direct threat to the lives of sheep herders and their livestock in Hays district.
The deputy leader of Masam Team 26 indicated that the team had received a report from shepherds about the presence of landmines in Bani Zuhair area, west of Hays district.
The locals asked Masam to move to the site and remove 18 anti-tank mines, including three dilapidated landmines that are incredibly difficult to remove due to their hazardous nature.
He added that Masam’s special task team was called to destroy these mines at their site using the environmentally friendly TJET500 technique, to be disposed of in the contaminated sites.
The deputy team leader noted that the credit goes to the awareness-raising efforts carried out by Masam teams in Al Hodeidah governorate, after which civilians are able to identify suspected landmines and inform Masam teams of their whereabouts.
Two children have also reported the presence of suspected mines in Bani Zuhair area.
