Masam’s Team 25 has brought life back to civilians’ farms in Wadi Dhama, Maqbanah district, in Yemen’s Taiz governorate, after removing more than 30 anti-tank mines.
In a statement, the deputy leader of Team 25 confirmed that the landmines that were removed were washed away by torrential rains from the militia-controlled areas to civilian areas that had previously been secured by Masam teams, at the bottom of Wadi Dhama, posing a threat to the lives of farmers and shepherds in the area.
The deminer added that Masam Team 25 succeeded in removing more than 30 anti-tank mines from Wadi Dhama and civilians’ farms, noting that these included three dangerous landmines that had to be destroyed in situ by Masam’s Special Task Force because they were too dangerous to remove and transport safely to Masam’s destruction site.
Adel Bagash, Sheikh of As-Sweihra, said civilians in Wadi Dhama rely mainly on agriculture as a basic source of living to support their families, but mines washed away by floods on their farms prevented them from entering or re-plowing their farms.
Sheikh Bagash highlighted the fact that Masam intervened in Wadi Dhama and removed mines from the valley and farms so that farmers could return to their farms and cultivate them.
The local chief thanked Project Masam for its efforts in Wadi Dhama, wishing the project to continue working and clearing all areas in Wadi Dhama.
