Five years passed since the Houthi militias led a coup against the legitimate authority in Yemen. The Yemeni people suffered heavily due to that malicious coup which pushed the country into a continuous fiery conflict that is ravaging all its corners, in which these militias used the ugliest methods such as landmines that wreck the present and future of Yemen.
During this period, the Houthis got Yemen into its worst chapter in history, as they deliberately destroyed its past, present and future through their explosives which they planted everywhere to target innocent civilians.
The planting of death tore Yemen apart and put it on top of an active volcano. Its very hard to get rid of this Houthi legacy in the coming years because the militias planted more than a million landmines since 2014, making Yemen the most afflicted country by landmines in the world since the Second World War. Due to their thirst for killing and especially after the heavy losses inflicted on them by the legitimate forces, the Houthis were very resourceful in hiding their landmines in order to kill as many civilians as possible.
These coup militias were not satisfied with the extensive planting of landmines under the Yemeni ground, they expanded the use of their terrorist tools to the sea to choke and lay a siege around Yemenis by targeting the ships and the international navigation.
The Houthis planted the tools of death massively, harming in the way civilians, farms, buildings and even animals, and the torrents came to make things worse, as they drifted the landmines to agricultural lands, valleys and roads, which instilled fear and terror into the hearts of civilians.
The Houthis have for a long time implemented the sadist policy of massacre and destruction, this is why Masam’s teams rushed to clear these thorns which devoured Yemen. The teams did a great, gigantic work in a short time. Masam’s teams were able to clear more than 180 thousand landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices since the launch of the project, in addition to clearing 13.322.291 square meters of Yemeni lands.
Project Masam’s wonderful achievements ignited hope in the hearts of Yemenis, brought life back to their regions and enabled them to get back to work again.
A decisive battle is raging in Yemen to protect millions of Yemenis from the Houthi landmines which they planted massively in populated areas to spill the blood of civilians and violate their right to live.
These huge quantities of landmines are a manifest of these militias’ bloody policies, but project Masam’s teams will always continue their mission to deliver Yemen from the curse of landmines.
