The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms and 13 international organizations unveiled in a report that the Houthi militias committed 51 killings, of which 19 were caused by landmines that they planted in many Yemeni regions.
The most recent report of “The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms” said that the Houthi militias committed various violations, such as: mine planting, sniping crimes and the explosion of projectiles and mortars that the Houthis launch on populated villages and cities.
A British report had unveiled that the Houthi militias made different kinds of mines, most importantly land mines that are produced locally which include small directional landmines (Klimore)
This report provides a wide view on landmines and improvised explosive devices that the Houthis’ forces use in the Yemeni western coast
The researcher in the UK-based organization Conflict Armament Research confirm that the Houthis based their production of this kind of landmines on the Chinese landmines (150 A GLD), the putschists produced also directional mines that are almost identical to the Iranian mines (TM-46) in addition to anti-tank mines that look like the famous Soviet mines (M18A2) and (TM-57)
According to the report, the Houthis own today modern components to produce different kind of infra-red explosives.
Workers in de-mining reiterated that the Houthis Planted about 1 million mines during the last 5 years, and they still continue planting them randomly in conflict areas, which led to the killing and miming of thousands.
They noted that the mines planted by the Houthi militias need ten times the efforts that are made today to remove them, and funding with billions of dollars, as they were planted randomly, and the militias don’t have a map which shows where they planted them.
Last June, “Human Rights Watch” announced that the landmines in Yemen caused the killing and disfigurement of civilians, wrecking lives of civilians, preventing the passage of humanitarian aid and the safe return of civilians to their homes.
Since the Houthi militias’ coup against the state in late 2014, and their storming of Yemeni cities with the force of arms, they used landmines in governorates where they were pushed out and hot conflict areas in Ta’izz, Ad Dali, Al Hudaydah, Hajja, Sa’dah, Ma’rib, Al Bayda’ and Al Jawf.
