First Undersecretary of Taiz Governorate, Dr. Abdul-Qawi Al-Mikhlafi, has said that Taiz is a “disaster-hit” area due to Houthi landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) heavily planted in civilian areas.
In a statement, Al-Mikhlafi, said that the mines and IEDs planted by the Houthi militia in Taiz caused the death and injuries of thousands of innocent civilians.
The First  Undersecretary claimed the Houthis’ planting of landmines is not military – rather the aim is to terrorise civilians and displace them from their homes and farms, and to create a broken society, Al-Mikhlafi claimed.
The Houthi militia committed systemic criminal acts against civilians in Taiz governorate, Al-Mikhlafi said, adding that planting mines and IEDs in populated areas is one of the most severe crimes committed by the militia against Yemenis. The leader noted that landmines have claimed the lives of thousands, most of them children and women.
In a letter sent to Project Masam, Al-Mikhlafi extended his thanks and appreciation on behalf of Taiz Governorate’s local authority to Project Masam for the humanitarian role it plays, with the aim to save the land and Yemenis from the danger of landmines.
