Project Masam’s pavilion in the second Marib Book Fair attracted a large number of visitors, who spent time perusing photos, publications and brochures aiming at educating people about the dangers of landmines and ways to prevent accidents.
Masam’s displayed photos of the civilians who fell victim to landmines in addition to statistics reflecting the project’s efforts and achievements in the domain of landmine removal and clearing liberated territories which have been planted with different types of explosive devices targeting innocent civilians.
According to statistics included within the Project’s mine risk awareness brochures, which are distributed to visitors, the project managed until December 23 2022 to remove 368,636 landmines which had been planted randomly by the Houthi militia in an area estimated at 42,293,661 square metres. Removed mines included 5,960 anti-personnel landmines, 135,144 anti-tank mines, 229,876 unexploded ordnance (UXO), and 7,656 improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Through its participation in the Marib Book Fair, Project Masam aims to widen the scope of social awareness of the dangers of landmines, and how to identify and deal with them in the safest way.
This is in addition to highlighting the crimes committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against Yemeni civilians, as well as its continuous planting of landmines and other deadly explosive items, which injure and kill innocent civilians – in a flagrant violation of Yemeni religious and moral codes, as well as the principles of International Humanitarian Law.
