Project Masam Team 6 has announced that it has cleared and defused six anti-tank mines on a desert road in Shaqt Al-Tayyar area, Usaylan district in Yemen’s Shabwah province.

The team leader confirmed that the demining process took place during the survey and securing operation in the minefield No. 5 in the same area.

He added that the team succeeded in clearing four other minefields, including two containing anti-personnel mines.

The leader of Team 6 explained that these minefields were among the most difficult, because of the nature of the landmines (banned anti-personnel mines) and the nature of the terrain, which is desert.

He added that the team was able to remove 36 anti-personnel mines from those fields.

With regard to the minefield No. 5, the team leader stated that an area of 89,000 square metres has been cleared so far, and work is still going on to fully secure the minefield.

Project Masam teams are making tangible progress in demining and clearing dangerous areas, which contributes to ensuring the safety of civilians and providing security for the region.

Team 6 continues to work to support humanitarian demining and clearance operations in the affected areas.
