The Managing Director of Project Masam has inspected the progress of field operations in the project’s areas of work in Aden and along the west coast of Yemen.

Launched in June 2018, Project Masam has 32 demining teams deployed across a number of liberated Yemeni regions, including Aden, Al-Jawf, Al-Dale, Al-Hudaydah, Marib, Shabwah and Taiz.

During his visit to the project’s headquarters in the de facto Yemeni capital, Aden, Ousama Algosaibi held an extensive meeting with the leaders and deputy leaders of the demining teams in the Aden and the west coast sector.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Amin Al-Aqili, Director of the National Mine Action Programme, and Brigadier General Qaid Haitham Halboub, Director of the Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) in Aden.

The meeting, attended by the project’s demining team leaders as well as operations and logistical support staff, focused on evaluating the demining teams’ achievements, and the challenges they face, and exploring innovative solutions to overcome obstacles. The aim is to ensure the continued success of demining operations and safeguard the lives of innocent civilians.

In a related development, Algosaibi honoured four of the 17 teams operating in the Aden and West Coast sector. He praised their exceptional performance, discipline, and accomplishments. These teams have played a crucial role in clearing mines and removing improvised explosive devices planted by Houthi militias, significantly contributing to the restoration of normal life in the affected areas.

The managing director emphasised that honouring the distinguished teams is part of the project’s efforts to motivate exceptional performance and encourage all teams to reach their full potential.

He noted that all demining teams demonstrate a high level of professionalism and dedicate immense efforts to achieving the project’s humanitarian objectives. Finally, Algosaibi stressed that the ultimate goal of the demining teams’ work is to protect Yemeni civilians from the dangers of landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and unexploded ordnance (UXO) while working to ensure security and stability in all liberated areas.
