This week, the University of Saba Region in the eastern Yemeni governorate of Marib has launched four specialised media courses aimed at qualifying 100 media professionals from among graduates of the Media Department, and workers in local media institutions.

Operating since mid-2018, Project Masam conducts humanitarian clearance in accordance with priorities set by the Yemeni National Authority, and currently has 32 teams working in liberated areas across Yemen – of which 16 operate from the organisation’s Marib headquarters.

The courses are organised by the Vice-Presidency for Student Affairs in collaboration with the College of Arts and Humanities, and are supported by Project Masam.

Over the course of five days, the programmes will cover topics including peace journalism, digital journalism, radio and television presentation, and podcast production. The goal is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance their media competencies and professional capabilities using modern technologies.

At the launch on 30 December 2024, Dr. Ali Saif Al-Rammal, the University’s Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dr. Abd Rabbu Muftah, deputy governor of Marib, emphasised the importance of these training programmes in enhancing the performance of media professionals amid the rapid changes in the media landscape.

Dr. Muftah commended Project Masam for its support of the event, underscoring the project’s recognition of media as a vital component of the country’s development, in addition to its significant contributions to demining and promoting security and stability in Yemen.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nasser Aram, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, outlined the objectives and content of the courses, praising the university’s efforts to strengthen its partnerships with both government institutions and the private sector in pursuit of its educational and societal mission.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Ahmed Bakheet, Deputy Administrative Director of Project Masam, Dr. Othman Al-Aradah, Secretary-General of the University of Saba Region, and a number of faculty deans and directors of executive offices in the governorate.

In August 2023, the Faculty of Sharia and Law of the University of Saba Region, a prominent academic institution dedicated to fostering higher education and research in the region, awarded Project Masam with a Shield of Loyalty in recognition of its mine clearance work in the area.
