University of Saba Region in Yemen awards Shield of Loyalty to Project Masam in recognition of its mine clearance work in the region

The Faculty of Sharia and Law of the University of Saba Region in the eastern Yemeni governorate of Marib Governorate has awarded Project Masam with a Shield of Loyalty in recognition of its mine clearance work in the region.

On Thursday (17 August), lawyer Assem Khamis, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the Law Ambassadors representing the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the University of Saba Region in Marib, a public university, handed over the award to Project Masam in appreciation for its efforts in clearing landmines.

The award was presented to Khaled Al-Otaibi, Project Masam Assistant Managing Director, at the project’s headquarters in Marib governorate on behalf of Ousama Algosaibi, the project’s Managing Director.

Khamis and members of the Preparatory Committee who represent the graduating class, highlighted the efforts made by the project’s demining teams over the last five and a half years in Yemen and the support given by Saudi Arabia,

Al-Otaibi thanked the committee for the award, adding that the Saudi government is keen on maintaining the safety and security of the Yemeni people and, through Project Masam, has vowed to protect civilians against the danger of landmines that are scattered across large swathes of Yemen.

Al-Otaibi also underlined how Yemen has been described as one of the most landmine-contaminated countries since World Was II.

The assistant managing director pointed out that 33 of the project’s staff have been killed and another 50 have been wounded in the line of duty, performing their humanitarian missions in ten Yemeni governorates since the project started in June 2018.

Al-Otaibi stressed that the project, under the leadership of Algosaibi, will continue its humanitarian efforts, despite difficulties and obstacles.
