Project Masam has carried out the bulk demolition of 1,485 mines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Bab al-Mandeb, in Yemen’s Taiz governorate.

The demolition operation carried out by Project Masam’s Special Task Team included 128 anti-tank mines, 1,338 projectiles and UXO, in addition to three anti-personnel mines and 16 IEDs.

In a statement, Project Masam’s Assistant Managing Director, Qasim Al-Dossari, said that the landmines that were destroyed were cleared in the past two weeks in the districts of Hays, Al-Khawkhah, Mawza’, Al Wazi’iyah and Mokha.

Al-Dossari added that the landmines that were disposed of posed a direct threat to their lives, and hindered work on farms and grazing sheep and camels.

“Civilians’ cooperation with Project Masam teams in reporting landmines and explosion sites has contributed significantly to detecting mines and [IEDs] before the occurrence of any accidents and explosions,” he highlighted.
