The Houthis may not be the first belligerent to use landmines in Yemen, but they are planting them with an extremely high rate.
Since September 21, 2014, the Houthi group has been dumping mines in various parts of Yemen, both cities and villages are flooded, not to mention along the coast, on the borders with Saudi Arabia, around major cities, and along the transportation routes linked to Sana’a.
Landmines are not significantly different from the more common improvised explosive devices.
Unlike the latter, which is identified by its manufacturing technique, mines are identified by the method of activating them, which is carried out by the victim, which means that they explode due to being trampled upon, which makes walking on the ground of Yemen like standing on a volcano crater waiting to explode at any moment.
The Houthis left a path littered with mines following their withdrawal from the governorates of Aden, Lahj, Al-Bayda and Ma’rib in 2015 and 2016. This widespread of this scourge delayed the arrival of aid to these affected areas and the return of the displaced, in addition to the delay in land reclamation.
From the foregoing, it is evident that the Houthi militias, with their methods and techniques, in addition to their use of excessive violence against civilians in Yemen, without accepting political solutions, It worked to prolong its war and deplete Yemenis human and land to serve the interests of its ally in the region, which considers Yemen a Trojan horse.
These rebels rely on planting explosives and internationally banned mines not for self-defense as much as it is a “systematic policy to target the innocent,” inflicting the largest number of victims as a retaliatory policy against civilians in light of the continuous bleeding in its ranks and the daily losses of dozens of its armed men, in addition to Yemenis stand as an impregnable fortress in the face of their plan to subjugate the country to its authority.
Mines have caused a genocide for civilians, making the scent of death wafting from every corner, the sound of weeping, crying, pain, deafening the ears and tearing the heart.
Therefore, in response to the call of humanity and the values of benevolence for the other and to provide a safe environment, Project Masam workers are dedicated to removing mines from the land of Yemen, which drew grief on the people’s characteristics, as their loss of 21 project crews did not prevent them from continuing to save the lives of innocent people from the Lethality of the enemy crouched in the ground.
By October 16, The engineering teams managed to clear 192467 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices from the liberated areas, including 3270 during the first two weeks of this month.
As a reminder, Project Masam works with more than 400 specialists to clear Yemeni lands from mines and remove these thorns that impeded life there.
The coup forces have destroyed Yemen and are still proceeding with this criminal act, unconcerned about the rift that it caused in the Yemeni home. Will this country find salvation from this lost group?
