With the roar of bullets and the sound of mine explosions and Houthi artillery shells, Yemen’s pain increases along with the groaning of its people, who have suffered bitterness since the emergence of this group on the Yemeni arena.
The Houthi militia’s violations of all agreements since the early hours of their conclusion, their endeavors in the process of planting mines, their insistence on attacking private and public industrial, agricultural and service facilities, other than this and that the continuous targeting of civilians, all are actions that indicate the lack of interest of this group in establishing peace in Yemen, but all its concern is to win time to penetrate and tighten its grip on the country and people.
Mines have always been the most dangerous plague left behind by the Houthi militia, claiming the lives of hundreds of innocent Yemenis. This epidemic, which the putschists adopted in their fabricated war on Yemen and its people, has had catastrophic results.
Reports issued by international human rights organizations have unanimously stated that Al-Houthi and his group deliberately planted about two million mines in Yemen, booby-trapping homes and farms, killing and maiming thousands and impeding the return of a large number of displaced people to their homes and disrupted life in a number of liberated governorates.
During the past six years, the Houthis have worked to bury landmines along the coast, on the borders with Saudi Arabia, around major cities, and on transportation routes linked to Sanaa, with the aim of tightening the noose on civilians and trampling them over their throats to subject them to its authority against their will.
This scourge that afflicted Yemen leaves tragic stories and the suffering of the victims and their families, not to mention pushing thousands of families who lost their breadwinners in the incidents of Al-Houuthi mines and explosive devices to the circle of poverty and indigence.
Perhaps the story of the fisherman, Yahya Salem Bakr, gives a clear example of what Yemenis suffer in the presence of mines. As the latter lost his life during fishing as a result of sea mine explosion, leaving behind five children without a breadwinner and a wife suffering her husband loss, and her sons who were thrown by the Houthi mines into the unknown to tamper with hunger and poverty.
In an attempt to ward off this danger from the Yemenis and alleviate their suffering, Project Masam continues its work with relentless determination against time to save innocent people from the Houthi mine fire. The extension of the project contract for the second time in a row had a positive impact on the lives of civilians, as Masam was able to clear more than 14,887,332 square meters of Yemeni land.
This humanitarian project touched the Yemeni citizen sentiment, as he sought from the beginning of his work to clear Yemeni areas from mines, address the direct threats to Yemeni people’s lives and help them deal with the humanitarian tragedies resulting from the spread of mines.
Masam teams have never stopped their activities, but rather work and strive hard, regardless of the existing conditions in Yemen, even though the obstacles are many and varied.
Mines have killed and maimed civilians, and hindered the return of displaced people to their homes, as well as depriving residents of their activities. However, despite these tragedies, the Houthi militia continues its sabotage approach by planting more death cans, thus eliminating any hope of ending this suffering.
