The Houthi militias surpassed the most dangerous terrorists in the world in terms of harming civilians, by planting more than a million landmines. The pro-Iranian militias were supreme masters in using landmines to kill and harm deliberately.
Hundreds of Yemenis were killed, and thousands of them lost parts of their bodies, becoming unable to live their lives normally.
These militias surprised us in their ability to innovate and create various murderous methods by using the deadly traps, to continue spilling Yemeni civilians’ blood for as long as possible, not giving a shred of care about religious morals or international law.
The harm of landmines affected the entire Yemeni society, especially children; they were the most affected by this calamity which befall on their land, and which was proliferated by the coup militias in every inch of their country, in a crime that is considered a war crime for sure, because it targeted their childhood and denied them the right to play, have fun and learn, and was the main reason for the handicap of many of them.
This coup which serves a sectarian agenda strange to the Yemeni society, destroyed the infrastructure, mosques and places of worship, causing the deterioration of life standards and the spreading of diseases. Yemen today faces a systematic destruction of land and men, by using all the methods and tools without mercy.
The danger of landmines is grave and overwhelming. It is the sole problem that threatens not only the present of Yemenis, but their past and future. There will be no safe life amid the grotesque number of landmines that are proliferated in Yemeni lands.
This imminent danger that besieges Yemenis from everywhere, showed the noble humanitarian role project Masam plays to clear landmines in Yemen.
Masam arrived at the right time to get Yemen out of this deadly marsh it found itself in forcibly. Masam became the savior of millions of Yemenis.
Racing against the clock, Masam’s teams continue their work relentlessly to bring life back to normal in all the regions where they set their feet, in order to enable civilians to return to their homes and jobs which they were forced to abandon due to the deadly traps left by the Houthis, after they harmed so many of them.
Masam was able indeed to achieve its humanitarian goal in a very professional way, by following two different methods; first, by working in fields that are drawn by the survey teams, and secondly, by responding to emergency calls.
This strategy enabled the project to achieve positive results on the ground, and if it proves anything, it shows the high degree of effectiveness and professionalism of Masam’s teams.
The humanitarian project Masam, is a leading experience in the clearance of landmines in Yemen. It enabled Yemenis to breathe again and restored hope that they can reclaim their lands and security which were taken away by a destructive bloodthirsty extremist militia.
