Project Masam has reached a significant milestone after clearing its 400,000th landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Yemen.
Operating since mid-2018, Project Masam currently has 32 teams working in liberated areas across the country and conducts humanitarian clearance in accordance with priorities set by the Yemeni National Authority.
Project Masam’s Managing Director Ousama Algosaibi announced that the project deminers reached a new landmark after clearing more than 400,000 anti-personnel and anti-tank landmines as well as UXO and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in just five years.
“It is a very honourable and promising figure, and an unprecedented result that we are proud of as a humanitarian landmine clearance project, not only on the Yemeni level, but also on the global one, especially  if we take into consideration the conditions of demining and the unfamiliar nature of mines that this country faces,” Algosaibi told Project Masam.
“All thanks, appreciation, gratitude and blessings to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the sponsor of this humanitarian work in Yemen, as well as in separate parts of the world.”
He explained: “Masam is a project of life and a project of struggle, aiming at laying the foundations of a life same from mines in Yemen. Such a project harnesses its field, technical and media energies for this goal, and will spare no effort to reach it.”
Algosaibi added: “The 400,000 figure is the symbol of our success, and it is an incentive for us to move forward in our greatest achievements, our ultimate goal, and our pursued promise – “Yemen without mines”.  Masam is a project of action, giving and perseverance, its energies are unique and abound with love for humanitarian work, and every success we achieve today pushes us towards raising the ceiling of our aspirations and intensifying our efforts to always be proactive towards quality, dedication and brilliance in the field of humanitarian work.”
Algosaibi stated that the project has so far managed to clear more than 46 million square metres of Yemeni lands that were rigged with landmines and explosive devices.
