Project Masam for Landmine Clearance in Yemen executed an operation to destroy and detonate 997 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices in Al Kad’ha region of Al Makha directorate, in the western coast.
In an exclusive interview with Masam’s media office the Managing Director of project Masam Mr Ousama Algosaibi confirmed that the destruction operation included 251 landmines, 82 anti-personnel landmines, 210 shells and unexploded ordnance, 392 fuses and capsules in addition to 53 explosive devices and 9 hand grenades.
Algosaibi said that the destruction operation executed by team 30 (specialized in shells collection), is the 21st of its kind in the western coast, which brings the total of destruction operations executed by Masam in Yemen to 65.
Project Masam works in the western coast with 16 engineering teams, deployed in the directorates of “Bab Al Mandab, Al Makha, Al Khokha, Dhabab, Muazza’a, Al Wazi’iya, Al Durayhimi, Hays, in addition to Kirsh directorate in Lahij province, and the directorates of Mukayras and Qa’ataba in Ad Dali’ province”.
And in conclusion, the engineering teams of Masam have been able to clear – since the launch of the project – more than 172 thousand landmines and unexploded ordnance from 8 liberated Yemeni provinces.
