The Managing Director of project Masam for the Clearance of Landmines in Yemen Mr Ousama Algosaibi said in an interview with Suhail TV channel that project Masam started its mission in Yemen in the middle of 2018, with 32 teams deployed in 8 Yemeni provinces.
Algosaibi confirmed that project Masam has been able until today to clear 172 thousand landmines, explosive devices and unexploded ordnance, noting that Masam still continues its humanitarian mission in Yemen with great efficiency and with the most advanced safety standards, hoping that the teams will be able this year to clear as many landmines as possible.
Algosaibi said that project Masam is racing against time to secure civilian lives, and that Masam’s teams are working according to the nature of lands and the depth of the landmines that we are clearing, by following international safety standards to avoid putting our de-miners in harm’s way.
Algosaibi reiterated that 90% of the landmines cleared by Masam’s teams are either locally made or imported from Iran, in addition to anti-vehicle landmines that were turned into anti-personnel landmines.
Algosaibi said that Masam has been able to clear up to 4500 explosive devices camouflaged as rocks and different shapes.
The Managing Director of project Masam Mr Ousama Algosaibi indicated that Masam’s engineering teams are working in civilian areas only, and that all the landmines which were cleared by project Masam were cleared from urban areas where the Houthi militias have planted them in schools, farms, roads and many vital areas used by civilians.
