Engineer Sami Said, the leader of Project Masam’s Team 26 has pointed out that his team has worked in the liberated districts of Al-Hodeidah governorate in addition to its main work in Khawkhah and Hays.
According to Said, Al-Hodeidah – an agricultural, grazing, and fishing area – suffered a lot from the ravages of landmines especially since civilians’ sources of livelihood were disrupted due to landmines randomly and intensively laid in these areas.
The engineer added that Al-Hodeidah is one of the Yemeni governorates that witnessed high rates of death and injuries among civilians as 393 have lost their lives there since 2022, he claimed.
Yet the humanitarian landmine clearance work of the Masam teams in this governorate contributed to reducing the number of landmine victims: no single casualty among civilians has been reported since the beginning of 2023 in the areas where the Masam team worked in.
Said pointed out that in 2022 four members of the Masam teams were killed while three others were injured within the framework of their landmine-removing efforts.
Masam teams are working hard to fulfil their humanitarian mission by harnessing their energies as well as all the necessary equipment with the aim to restore a safe and landmine-free life to the Yemenis.
Said also mentioned in detail the achievements made by his team affirming that during 2022, his team cleared 42 farms, four schools, two health centres, and four water projects in addition to dealing with a naval mine on the Khawkhah coast.
Said affirmed that Masam’s teams are on the alert to deal professionally with landmines, face challenges and protect the vital utilities that guarantee the continuation of a safe life in Yemen. The team leader praised the efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure the continuation of the contributions of this project to protect civilians against the danger of landmines.
