Masam destroys 720 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices in southeast Yemen

Project Masam has destroyed 720 landmines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and explosive devices in Wadi Dhahban, Ain district, Shabwah governorate.
The detonation operation, which was carried out by Masam teams, in the presence of the head of the National Program for Mine Action, included 160 anti-tank mines, 31 anti-personnel mines, 513 unexploded shells in addition to 16 explosive devices.
In a statement, Ameen Saleh Alaqili, the head of the National Program for Mine Action (YEMAC), confirmed the explosive items were removed by Masam teams operating in the southeastern governorate of Shabwah during the month of February.
Alaqili said that the items were removed as part of Project Masam’s objective to secure the lives of civilians in the districts of Bayhan, Usaylan and Ain. The lives of more than 95,000 civilians were saved from landmines in these districts as a result of these clearance operations.
