Watch Jalal Amer, Leader of Team 24, discuss how two Masam Teams discovered 16 German-made PPM-2 anti-personnel landmines in a minefield in the Jabal Sheikh Saeed area, of the strategic Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

Since Yemen’s civil was began in 2014, Houthi militias have planted land and seamines across Yemen. Coastal communities in Yemen are direct victims of these explosive items.

“Some mines are laid on paved roads, thus making it easy for civilians to find them,” Amer told Masam. This is a vital area for civilians – boats transport fishermen’s catch, foodstuffs and animal feed, which is then transported by road. By preventing access to trade, landmines and seamines are preventing access to civilians’ lifelines and livelihoods.

During a field visit by Masam Technical Advisors, the clearance plan was discussed with both Team Leaders and further recommendations were made by Masam Operations.
