Project Masam continues to clear areas of strategic humanitarian importance such as airports and roads.

Colonel Mubarak Salem Ali Siod, Commander of the Air Police Battalion at Ataq Airport in Shabwah Governorate requested immediate help from Project Masam to clear Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and landmines left behind at Ataq Airport – an imminent danger to airport personnel, airline crews and civilians.

“We thank the response from Project Masam teams who accepted our request to carry out a comprehensive survey of the airport and the discovery of remnants of war from previous wars – whether from the current Houthi war or the wars before it,” he said.

“Since the day we entered the area, in cooperation with the Masam teams, 75 shells have been located and destroyed.”

Last week alone (11-16 September 2021), Masam’s Team 6 cleared 94 UXO from Ataq.
