Project Masam for Landmine Clearance in Yemen carried out an operation to destroy and detonate 866 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices in Bab Al Mandab.
In an exclusive interview with Masam’s media office, the Managing Director of project Masam Mr Ousama Algosaibi confirmed that the destruction operation included 249 anti-tank landmines.
Mr Algosaibi added that the operation also included the destruction of 263 various shells, 305 fuses, two hand-grenades and one flying missile.
Algosaibi said that the destruction operation led by team 30 (specialized in shells’ collection) and under the direct supervision of Masam’s experts, is the 22nd operation in the western coast, which bring the total of destruction operations led by Masam so far to 66 in Yemen.
Project Masam works in the western coast with 16 clearing teams, deployed in the directorates of “Bab Al Mandab, Al Mocha, Al Khokha, Dhabab, Muazza’a, Al Wazi’iya, Al Durayhimi, Hays, in addition to Kirsh directorate in Lahij province, and the directorates of Mukayras and Qa’ataba in Ad Dali’ province”.
Masam’s clearing teams were able to clear more than 172 thousand landmines and unexploded ordnance, since the launch of the project until now, in 8 liberated Yemeni provinces.
And despite the difficulty of working in landmine clearance, project Masam continues its mission relentlessly, with an unequal determination and a sky rocketing morale to achieve its humanitarian goal: to clear every inch of Yemen from the traps of death, and make Yemen safe and secure for its inhabitants.. A Free-landmine Yemen.
