The Houthis used in their coup the most deadly and destructive weapons against civilians in Yemen. The criminal militias used different kinds of arms to take control of Yemen.
Landmines are one of the most important weapons that the Houthis used against Yemen and its people, and one of its tools to violate flagrantly the rights of Yemenis. Let’s not forget that these thugs don’t care about international law and treaties such as the “Ottawa” convention which prohibits the production and use of anti-personnel landmines that the Houthis are still planting, hoping that this will help them to stop the advance of the government forces and oblige the Yemenis to surrender to their evil power.
These criminals ripped Yemen apart, killed its people and turned them into displaced and refugees. Even the animals were not safe from landmines, as they joined the list of the Houthis’ victims, especially in rural areas, and the animals that were wandering in Yemeni lands freely were massacred savagely.
The Houthi militias distributed the seeds of death generously all over Yemen to kill as many civilians as possible instead of planting wheat, roses and coffee beans. The Houthis chose to bombard civilians with bombs and explosives in a criminal sectarian war that serves a terrorist ideology which is completely alien to the Yemeni people.
This group worked always, and since the start of the crisis to thwart the best option that serves the interest of Yemen and prevents the catastrophe that hit it; the option of a deal that brings all the parties together for a peaceful resolution of the crisis. They did so because they want to be the sole power in Yemen, to impose their extremist ideology, but the Yemeni fighting spirit kept resisting the pain, disappointments, and the Houthi tyranny.
The dream of a Yemeni state was shattered at the hands of a hideous group that spills blood by the gallons with its dirty fighting methods on Yemeni soil. But the resilience and will of the management and employees of project Masam is still standing, unshaken by crises and difficulties, because Masam’s actions are driven by humanitarian reasons and the believe in the necessity of helping the vulnerable and protecting civilians’ lives.
And because “Masam” represents the hand of hope that will save Yemen from this deadly quagmire, the inhabitants of Tubn valley made an appeal to project Masam to save them from the landmines that were drifted by rain torrents and dispersed along the stream of Tubn river, from Hajar Ad Dali to Lahij province, and which the length is estimated to be between 150 and 160 kilometers. This is why all these regions are considered minefields that threaten civilian lives, which made project Masam respond rapidly to the appeal, because the project is very keen to protect civilians despite the difficulties laid in the mission of surveying all the regions situated along the stream of the river from Ad Dali to Lahij province. The mission seems to be impossible, but Masam’s clearing teams will for sure, accomplish it, and overcome all the circumstances such as the hard roads, the distance, the difficulty of surveying in the middle of the farms, jungles and continuous flowing torrents.
The landmines instilled terror in the hearts of Yemenis; they choked them and turned their lives into an inferno, but with the arrival of project Masam, they see hope again in reclaiming their lands and returning to their normal lives even if achieving that will take some time.
