Due to constant exposure to stressors, such as armed conflict, water scarcity, food insecurity, forced displacements, and high poverty rates, Yemenis currently face a mental health crisis. This crisis is further exacerbated by the current threat of landmines.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that at least 5.5 million people in Yemen require psychological intervention despite there only being 59 psychiatrists and 120 psychologists.

Mental health professionals lack the funding and resources to assist the number of patients needing treatment.

A lack of education about mental illness also led to cultural stigma in Yemen that prevents people from seeking help, even when their symptoms are severe and difficult to manage.

Yemenis are in dire need of tools to help them identify mental health conditions and how to cope with them.

Increasing mental health awareness can decrease potential long-term consequences to physical and emotional well-being.
