“The war should be a state against a state, but here only civilians are suffering and bearing the burden.”

These are the words of Ali Qassem Saleh, a devoted grandfather from Yemen’s south-western region of Al-Dhalea – also known as Dhale.

Speaking from his village, Saleh told Project Masam how his daughter was severely injured when a landmine detonated as she took shelter under a tree with her five daughters.

“I believe that the deployment of landmines is a criminal thing,” Saleh said about the impact of the ongoing conflict and the landmine devastation in Yemen. “It is not the fault of the people to be injured in this way.”
