While Yemen was hoping to recover from the conflicts landmines of the last century, the war, which escalated with the Houthis taking control of Sana’a in 2014, came to start a chapter that is the most dangerous in the history of the country with the threat of landmines, hundreds of thousands of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines are being spread In varying proportions in all regions.
Sheikh Omar Saleh Baisi, the sheikh of “Jabal Al Nar” region, has confirmed that his area was trapped with thousands of landmines and explosive devices by the Houthi militia, he pointed out that the local people in the area were displaced from their homes and farms after the putschists turned their area into a stage for their military operations.
Baisi added that the area was liberated after more than two years of displacement. Residents were heralded by this, but found themselves under another more dangerous and fierce enemy represented in landmines that Houthi militias had planted in the roads leading to the area, farms, water wells, schools, and even graves.
“Jabal Al-Nar” area is a residential and agricultural area that the Houthi militia has randomly filled it with large quantities of landmines and explosive devices, which caused a number of civilian casualties, most of them women and children.
The people of “Jabal Al-Nar” region were unable to return to their homes and farms until they were secured by “Team 20” of project Masam. Colonel “Othman Al-Jahouri”, the team leader, stated that his team is currently working on clearing a minefield exceeding an area of 17 thousand square meters, and has been able to secure 70% of it.
And the work is still going on until the area is fully secured, indicating that his team was working with an emergency mine density plan in all vital areas on the West Coast.
The team was able to secure more than 10 mined areas in the districts of “Al-Mokha”, “Moaze’a”, and “Al-Waziah”, more than 10 thousand landmines, explosive devices and unexploded ordnance were removed, all of these landmines were removed from homes, farms and schools. This reveals the ugly face of this group, which is targeting civilians to implement its agenda.
However, despite the efforts made by the field teams of project Masam other than the rest of the parties concerned with demining, this scourge is still killing lives.
As a landmine that was planted by coup militias exploded on the main road of the “Khub-Wa Shaaf” district in “Al-Jawf” governorate, which killed a civilian and wounded others while their car was passing to “Al Yatma” area ..
