Planting the seeds of hope, bringing life back to normal, reviving what the landmines tried to bury alive, chasing fear out of civilians’ hearts because of the deadly explosive traps; these are the priorities of project Masam. Masam is working hard and doing its best to finish the last chapters of the landmines’ catastrophe that befall upon Yemen.
To achieve a “Yemen free of landmines”, which is a great humanitarian goal, Masam continues it perseverance and hard work. Lately, 90% of Al Mocha territories were secured after they were cleared from landmines, which excited the population of the province and led them to return to their homes, feeling a great joy that they are now free of landmines.
Al Mocha directorate is just an example of what project Masam does to bring normal life back to thousands of civilians who were forced to live their homes and farms after the Houthi landmines killed and maimed hundreds of them.
Amid the deadly thorny fields and risky roads, Masam’s clearing teams have been working for the last two years to protect hundreds of regions, villages and residential areas. Masam’s clearing teams were able to bring 90 % of the local civilians back safely to their regions and farms.
As for Masam’s achievements on the ground, the leader of team 21 Masam Engineer Mohammad Sha’fal indicated in an exclusive interview with Masam’s media office the following: “My team was able to clear and demolish more than 1700 landmines, 450 IEDs and unexploded ordnance from 21 mined fields and regions during the past period in Al Mocha directorate”. He added that his team moved two months ago to work in new regions in Muazza’a directorate after succeeding in its mission in Al Mocha directorate.
Engineer Sha’fal noted that project Masam played the main and most effective role in developing the clearers’ skills and strengthening their experiences, and that thanks to the most advanced devices provided by Masam to the clearers, the team was able to make big and tangible achievements.
And about the field which is being cleared now by team 21 Masam, Engineer Sha’fal indicated that it is situated in Muazza’a directorate, and is a high impact field due to its proximity to the residential areas, and a number of sub-roads that lead to the surrounding villages and residential areas pass through it, reiterating that Masam will continue its humanitarian mission perseveringly, to secure the entire areas liberated from the landmines.
