Project Masam has announced its has located and destroyed 291,931 explosive devices in Yemeni liberated areas.

These include 4,226 anti-personnel mines, 97,978 anti-tank mines, 6,137 improvised explosive devices and 183,590 unexploded ordnance neutralised over 28,224,345sqm of land since mid-2018.

Last week (27 November – 03 December 2021) alone, Project Masam deminers removed 1,578 deadly items, including 518 anti-tank mines, 17 anti-personnel mines, 1,027 unexploded ordnance (UXO) and 16 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), effectively clearing 125,752sqm of Yemeni land, which has now been returned to civilians.

More than five million people are estimated to have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen – many of them displaced by the presence of landmines on their land.

Masam teams are tasked to clear areas of immediate humanitarian priority: villages, roads, schools, etc… in order to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian goods and services. Last week, for instance, 29 landmines – some booby-trapped – were found to have been planted in the healthcare centre, school and water tank in Al-Dahiya village in the Al-Khawkhah Directorate.
