One of Project Masam’s demining teams has discovered and cleared dozens of landmines in a recently liberated area in Yemen’s Taiz Governorate.

This area in Yemen’s western coast has been a hotspot of the country’s ongoing war. Masam continues to witness a trail of landmines and other remnants of war left behind by Houthi militias, after pro-government forces took over land Houthis had controlled.

Last week (27 November – 03 December 2021), Masam’s Team 7, led by Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ajrah, located and removed 23 anti-tank landmines and five anti-personnel mines in the Taiz Governorate.

Team 7, along with Team 8, is operating in Hwzan area in Dhubab directorate. Masam has previously located and cleared landmines planted in villages, in schools and healthcare centres, in grazing fields and on roads leading up to villages in Dhubab.

Work in the Dhubab area continues. For more information about our humanitarian mine clearance operations in Taiz, follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter.
