Many people call Yemen “The land of death”, after the Houthi militias turned vast areas of the country into an open space filled with deadly landmines in order to prolong the life of their coup and make civilians pay a heavy price.
The landmines and explosive devices in different sizes, kinds and shapes have been always the most dangerous weapon used by the militias from the beginning of their coup in the summer of 2014.
The criminal militias planted at random a huge number of landmines and maritime mines, explosive devices and rocket missiles inland and in the sea.
During these six years of the Houthi violations of human rights, the international and humanitarian organizations documented the fall of thousands of civilians victims to these explosives.
The artificial limbs which became parts of many Yemenis’ bodies are a clear evidence of the crimes that were and are still committed there. The evil of these mercenaries spared no rock, tree, human, religion or land. The pro-Iranian militias push Yemen to the brink of the abyss by planting these landmines.
According to the Civilian Impact Monitoring Project, the number of the Houthi landmines’ victims reached 68, including 37 dead, since the beginning of 2020.
The project confirmed that the Houthi landmines planted in agricultural lands, villages, water wells and roads killed 140 civilians including 19 children, in Al Hudaydah and Taiz provinces since 2018, in addition to hampering the lives of civilians as they can’t enter their farms, feed their families or even stay in the their homes.
The landmines prevented also the humanitarian organizations from bringing aid to the needy.
But despite the dire circumstances and hardship that Yemen faces, project Masam continues its hard work to help the Yemeni people to get rid of the Houthi militias and their catastrophic consequences.
The project’s teams were able during the 3rd week of August to clear 1257 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices, which brings the total of what was cleared since the beginning of the month until the 21st of it to 3318, hence the total of explosives that were cleared since the launch of the project until the 21st of August reached 180955. A number that demonstrates the huge efforts made by Masam to protect Yemenis from these deadly thorns.
The Managing Director of the project Mr. Ousama Algosaibi noted that 90% of the cleared landmines are either locally made or locally modified, which proves that these militias are keen to harm civilians and continue their criminal plan without mercy or care about civilians.
The thirst for power and total control made the Houthi militias inhuman. They turned into freaks who have no feelings, and who care only about their interests, pushing them to use the landmines to hamper the progress and development of Yemen for many years to come.
