To secure an environment free of landmines, project Masam had a different view about dealing with cleared landmines and unexploded ordnance, as the project’s mission doesn’t focus only on clearing landmines and explosives of various kinds, it works also on destroying them completely according to a system that project Masam follows to the letter, in order to guarantee that nobody will use them again in the future.
And in continuation of the operations to destroy and demolish landmines, project Masam led in the western coast an operation to destroy and demolish 838 landmines, explosive devices and unexploded ordnance in the directorate of Bab Al Mandab.
In an exclusive interview with Masam’s media office the international expert Dr. Zauba Alrawi confirmed that the demolition operation executed today included 323 anti-armor landmines, 10 anti-personnel landmines, 300 fuses and capsules, in addition to 204 unexploded shells and mined Houthi missiles.
Dr. Alrawi said that Masam’s teams in the western coast carried out until today 24 operations to destroy and demolish thousands of landmines and unexploded ordnance, which brings the total of demolition operations carried out by Masam’s clearing teams so far to 69 destruction and demolition operations in Yemen.
Alrawi said that “We are looking forward to make more achievements this year, and we are doing out best to secure Yemen and protect Yemenis from the danger of landmines”.
The international expert in project Masam Dr. Zauba Alrawi added that the destruction and demolition operations will continue until we make Yemen free of landmines, God willing, noting that the demolition operation which was carried out today by team 30 (specialized in collection) under the direct supervision of Masam’s experts, was successful.
For his part, Major General Qaid Haytham, the Executive Director of the Mines Action Center in Aden said that the mission of securing Yemen from the danger of landmines requires courage from the international community to criminalize the planting and production of landmines, and to compel the Houthis to stop the terrorism that their militias are inflicting upon the Yemenis, and to force them to hand over the landmines’ maps promptly.
