Yemenis who weren’t killed by the hellfire of the Houthi coup, were killed by the militias’ landmines. The Houthis continue to mess with civilian lives in Yemen, through planting the landmines that are killing Yemenis indiscriminately. Why are they doing these dastardly deeds, and for whom? Sympathy and Human feelings have long left the hearts of the Houthis and forever.
The Houthis broke a record in planting landmines and explosive devices since they started their war against the Yemeni state. The Houthis are now the most dangerous and vicious group in the world in using explosive devices against civilians.
Due to the Houthis’ craziness that doesn’t care about the fate of civilians, Yemen has become the most affected country by the calamity of landmines’ proliferation in the Middle East. Yemen topped the international list in the number of landmines’ explosions in 2018, according to a report published by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
The quantity of landmines the Houthis have planted during the past years put Yemen as the highest, since the Second World War, as whenever the Houthis were defeated and expelled from a region, they would keenly plant the land with different kinds of land an maritime mines as a vendetta against Yemenis.
The Houthis have been in fact very resourceful in committing this horrendous crime to kill as many civilians as possible by the deadly traps that they have proliferated everywhere in Yemen. And those who weren’t killed by landmines would either live without limbs or be forced to leave their homes and villages to look for a safe place in order to live far away from the death that awaits them at every step.
The Houthis plant landmines and Yemeni civilians harvest their fruits. The price they pay is their lives that have never been a part of any military operation or target.
These coup militias have never been reluctant to destroy civilian infrastructure or to produce landmines and plant them extensively and randomly to target innocent civilians, which led to heavy human losses. Let’s not forget also the other Houthi deeds that threaten security and life. This is why Masam is very keen to clear all the Yemeni lands from the remnants of landmines and unexploded ordnance, and this is why Masam extended its contract for the second consecutive time in order to support Yemenis and protect their lives.
During the fulfillment of its humanitarian mission in Yemen, Masam has been eager to adhere to safety and security standards, for its teams and the environment in which they work, this is why it uses the most advanced tools and techniques in the landmine clearance operations.
The international expert in project Masam, Dr. Zauba Alrawi indicated that the latest technology used by the project in dealing with the deadly traps is the eco-friendly TJET500 technology, and which the project’s teams are very keen to use.
Spreading life in Yemeni lands, and standing in the face of the destructive Houthi plan are the most important goals achieved by Masam, through clearing death from the soil of Yemen. This humanitarian work touched the feelings of Yemenis, as they saw in it a hope to return to their normal lives, and especially after Masam cleared 176310 landmines and unexploded ordnance, and cleaned more than 12 million square meters of lands, which allowed many civilians to return to their homes and jobs.
The planting of landmines is one of the tools the Houthi militias are adamant to use to punish the Yemeni people and prolong their sufferings. Landmines are prohibited in International Humanitarian Law and all related conventions. This crime is taking place while the United Nations remain deeply silent, which encouraged the Houthi malicious group to continue this evil scheme.
