In an update from the field, Engineer Amer Al-Bahri, Leader of Project Masam’s Team 2, confirmed that his team is working in Sae’llt Baliq in Shabwah Governorate to clear it of landmines randomly planted by the Houthi militia.

Al-Bahri said that Team 2 is making great progress in Sae’llt Baliq area and work is ongoing until it is completely cleared of mines, as this is a priority area close to the desert road linking the center of Marib governorate and Harib district.

The team leader explained that Sae’llt Baliq is an important area for grazing livestock and agriculture, with several roads branching out of it, linking the villages and farms of the civilians in the districts of Ain and Harib.

Engineer Al-Bahri indicated that several cars had detonated hidden landmines when civilians were using the road, and a number of animals had fallen victims to landmine incidents.

Al-Bahri pointed out that the most prominent difficulty and challenge facing his team’s work is the random mine laying in sand dunes – demining those sandy areas is time-consuming and dangerous.

Al-Bahri explained: “Despite the difficulties we face in these areas planted with mines, we are making great efforts to clear them and dispose of mines so that civilians can benefit from the land, whether in agricultural reposession or grazing, as well as using roads to travel to farms, schools and [other] villages.”

The leader of Project Masam team 2, expressed his appreciation for the generous support provided by the project’s management team.
