The Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has commended Saudi Arabia’s decision to extend the contract of the Masam Landmine Clearance Project in Yemen.
In his statement on X (formerly Twitter_, Al-Eryani noted that the Kingdom has allocated $36 million to support this vital humanitarian landmine clearance initiative for an additional, seventh year.
The minister emphasised that this assistance reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to compassion and humanity, acknowledging the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the landmines extensively planted by the Houthi militia.
Since its launch in mid-2018, Project Masam, which is affiliated with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), has cleared 450,919 mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), saving nearly half a million Yemenis, including children, women, and old people, according to Al-Eryani.
Minister Al-Eryani praised Project Masam’s demining teams, led by Ousama Algosaibi, for their significant sacrifices over the past six years, during which they cleared nearly 60 million square metres of Yemeni land.
Additionally, the cabinet minister expressed his deepest gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for their unwavering support for the Yemeni government and people, reflecting the strong relations and historical ties between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
Al-Eryani has served as the Minister of Information and Culture for the Republic of Yemen since 2016.
