The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qassem Buhaibeh, praised the humanitarian role provided by Project Masam in securing Yemen and Yemenis from the threat of mines.

During his visit to Project Masam office in Aden, the Yemeni Minister of Health confirmed that the efforts made by Masam engineering teams in various governorates have greatly contributed to reducing the severity of injuries caused by mines, and helped citizens return to their villages and farms safely away from the danger of mines.

The Minister of Health said that Project Masam is a project of life and hope for all Yemenis to live in peace, pointing out that Masam engineering teams helped medical teams reach many mined areas by clearing roads and residential villages that were closed by minefields and difficult to reach.

Buhaibeh pointed out that mines victims in Yemen are thousands, and this constitutes a great burden on the Yemeni government in general and the health sector in particular, as mine victims need intensive health care, given that the majority of them have permanent disabilities.

Buhaibeh said that his visit to Project Masam came to express thanks and appreciation for the efforts made by Masam in Yemen and the demand to continue this great humanitarian work until Yemen is cleared from mine epidemic.

For his part, the Managing Director of the project, Ousama AlGosaibi, reviewed the stages and achievements of Project Masam in all governorates and regions in which Masam engineering teams are deployed, who were able since the launch of Masam in Yemen mid-2018 until today to clear more than 217 thousand mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices.

AlGosaibi said that Project Masam is in a race against time, given that the clearance operations are accompanied by mine-planting operations in many of the non-liberated areas.

The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Ali Al-Waleedi, the Director of the National Program for Mines Action, Brigadier General Amin Al-Aqili, the Director of Special Operations, Mr. Chris Clark, the Assistant Managing Director of Project Masam, Qassem Al-Dossary, and the chief expert of Masam in Aden office, Dr. Zauba Al-Rawi and the technical expert and translator of the project, Fayez Al-Harbi.
