The Houthi militias have dominated the Yemeni political scene in the last six years, for they are the party responsible for the destruction of Yemen, after taking control of it with the force of weapons. The Houthis have never hesitated to use the most lethal weapons to achieve their goal, ignoring the sufferings they inflicted on the Yemeni people.
The Houthi militias proliferated their hateful landmines generously in the Yemeni lands, and turned most of them into landmine fields that kill civilians mercilessly.
Perhaps the latest of these incidents is the one that happened in Qadaba village in Al Durayhimi, southern Al Hudaydah, as one Yemeni and two of his kids from Al Jaribah village were killed in an explosion of a landmine that was planted by the militias near civilian homes, as they were heading to receive medical care in a hospital there.
By using landmines, the Houthis show that they lack empathy towards civilians. Their landmines caused the killing and maiming of thousands of civlians, in addition to hindering the return of displaced families to their homes.
The Houthi militias consider all Yemenis as their enemies, this is why they allow the spilling of their bloods, messing with their lives, shattering their dreams and destroying their past, present and future.
The Houthis, backed by some regional powers led Yemen to the worst situation of its history, through destroying its lands and killing its people.
The Houthis didn’t stop there, they occupied cities and forces civilians to leave their homes, in a balatant violation of international conventions and treaties that prohibit such inhuman acts.
During the last years, the Houthi militias have been resourceful in killing thousands of Yemenis by many different ways, such as sniping, bombing, ladmines etc.. Committing the worst crimes against humanity. International reports show that the Houthis’ use of anti-personnel and anti-vehicles landmines inflicted a huge damage on Yemenis and killed hundreds of them in the provinces of Aden, Taiz, Abyan, Ad Dali, Al Bayda, Al Jawf, Hajjah, Ibb, Marib, Sana’, Sa’ada, Shabwah and Al Hudaydah which is considered the worst affected Yemeni province by this disease.
Many international organizations hold the Houthi militias fully responsible, historically, leagally and humanly for planting more than one million landmines in Yemen, turning the country which is famous for the planting of coffee into the most planted with landmines in the world.
This catastrophe that befell upon Yemen, made project Masam play a pivotal role in this battle which has become a nightmare for Yemenis, for with every explosion, their limbs shake and hearts tremble, fearing an unknown fate that may happen to one of their sons and daughters, this is why, despite the difficulties they face in their work, Masam’s clearing teams continue their mission tirelessly to reiterate their commitment to their noble goal; to protect life and humanity through Masam’s members sacrifice of their lives to save the Yemenis.
Masam’s teams were able in the last week of July to clear 1327 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices, which brings the total of what was cleared between the 30th of June and the 31st of July to 5906, thus the total number to 177637 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices.
To protect Yemeni civilians from the specter of death and prevent the descent of Yemen into the abyss, Project Masam is using its entire human power and material arsenal to clear the deadly seeds which the coup militias planted in order to kill as many Yemenis as possible.
