In Yemen, there is no sound that is louder than the deafening sound of bullets, rockets and explosions. The Houthi terrorism continues in Yemen, and so do the militias’ attempts to wreck lives, destroy the state institutions, break the social peace and poison the minds of youth with a culture of death, killing and hatred.
The violations of the Houthi militias in Yemen are no secret. Criminality, terrorism and extremism prevail in Yemen, and death has become a norm, especially with the presence of such huge quantities of explosives there.
The problem of landmines has become a nightmare for Yemenis all around the country. Almost one million landmines buried underground are threatening the lives of more than 28 million Yemenis, noting that they led until now to the handicap of thousands of people and catastrophic consequences for the environment, and they constitute a hurdle for the development efforts, in addition to the rising number of killed civilians.
These militias didn’t stop at the crimes they committed inland after they flooded the Yemeni soil with huge quantities of landmines, they expanded their deadly terrorist tools by deploying naval mines to threaten the international navigation, the lives of thousands of fishermen whom many were seriously wounded in the western coast, in addition to the killing of tens of them.
The Houthi militias are never short of criminal ideas to mess with the lives of Yemenis, to torture and to kill them. The Houthis led sabotage operations such as cutting off clean water and inflicting misery on the livelihood of civilians who are going through a humanitarian catastrophe, as these militias mined the houses and roads to deny them the displacement to safe areas, following a strategy to stop the advance of governmental forces and put pressure on them, and also to take revenge against the militias’ opponents.
The militias did this in Sarwah directorate, western Marib province, where they demolished a number of houses that belonged to Al Firas tribe in Addiq valley. This comes in the context of the terrorist operations that the Houthis lead to demolish the houses of their opponents.
With these acts, the Houthi militias were able to outclass all the gangs and terrorist experts in planting landmines, in finding ways to harm and kill deliberately.
There is still a long difficult way to finally get rid of this huge number of landmine that are planted all over Yemen, but despite that, project Masam is still determined to save civilians’ lives and protect them from the specter of death. Project Masam works hard for that goal because it believes in the right of Yemenis to live safely, and this is why Masam’s staff are working to normalize life and bring hope back to Yemenis that it is possible to live a normal life, and that the culture of life is stronger than the culture of killing and destruction.
In the same context, Team 3 Masam was able, since it started its work in the middle of 2018, to secure and clear 18 fields and mined areas with a size estimated at 79 thousand square meters, in many provinces, including Marib province where the team works nowadays.
And the project’s teams cleared during the first week of September 1353 landmines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices, bringing the total of what Masam’s teams cleared since the launch of the project until the 4th of September to 183581. Masam’s teams were also able to clear 13.868.757 square meters of Yemeni lands.
These are some of the crimes and transgressions committed by these coup militias, and they are still committing them against Yemenis, benefitting from the terrible silence of the international community.
