Tihama was no exception to the actions of Houthi militias, as the region and its people were assailed by violence.
In October, the crimes of several Houthi militias were reported, caused by landmines planted in parts of Tihama along the western coast. On October 10th, a landmine detonated in a farm in the Yakhtul area, killing two brothers.
On the 15th of the same month, 7 civilians were killed and others wounded when a network of landmines planted by the militias detonated in At Tuhayta City, also along the western coast.
West of Bayt Al-Fagih, four children, three of them from one family, were injured when a suspicious object exploded – they had found it on the road, and it detonated when they tried to take it with them, injuring them all.
Last Thursday, a civilian was killed and 5 people injured in a landmine explosion in Irfan – Dahmash branch – south of the city of Hays in Al Hudaydah.
A counter to this tragic situation, the efforts of Masam’s demining teams have not waned with their objective of removing the thousands of landmines that remain. Because of that, thousands of displaced people and farmers have been able to return to their homes and farms. The challenge to remove the rest of the landmines planted in Yemen is ongoing.
