Project Masam has cleared and demolished a large number of landmines, and explosive ordnance in the Al-Wadi District in Yemen’s strategic Marib Governorate today (29 June).

Project Masam’s Operations Room announced that today’s bulk demolition operation marks the second phase of clearance of remnants of war discovered by demining Team 13 in the Samda area of Marib, following an uncontrolled deadly explosion at a weapons depot in May this year, and an earlier bulk demolition of 2,300 weapons and unexploded ordnance on 13 May.

On 7 May, a woman was killed and three other civilians were injured in the uncontrolled explosion at an weapons depot located near a internal displaced persons (IDPs) camp Samda area in Marib in northeastern Yemen. The blast destroyed and burned dozens of IDP’s homes.

Management emphasised the success of Team 13, who was immediately dispatched to the location, and which mission focused on removing and securing landmines and explosive ordnance following the explosion.

This success has contributed significantly to securing the lives of displaced people and locals from the dangers posed by these war remnants.
