As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, Project Masam has carried out a large-scale demolition operation on Wednesday (6 August) to destroy a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the Bab al-Mandab area of Dhubab District, in Yemen’s Taiz Governorate.
The operation aims to enhance community safety and protect civilian lives.
According to a statement from the Project Masam’s Media Office, the organisation’s Special Task Team 2 led the operation, which destroyed 4,029 explosive remnants of war, including:
- 79 miscellaneous shells
- 1,122 assorted fuses
- 2,719 miscellaneous rounds
- 13 anti-personnel mines
- 44 anti-tank mines
- 43 hand grenades
- 3 improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
- 6 miscellaneous missiles
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) expert Adib Rajab, leader of the Special Task Team in Aden and the West Coast, confirmed that the bulk demolition operation was conducted in a secure location, far from residential areas and farmland, and in full compliance with international safety standards, despite difficult field conditions.
“The work of the Special Task Teams continues year-round due to the critical nature of our task: protecting innocent lives,” Rajab said.
Project Masam remains committed to clearing landmines and explosive remnants across several Yemeni governorates, restoring safety to affected communities, and enabling the safe return of displaced populations.
