As part of its efforts to clear Yemeni land of landmines, Project Masam has carried out the bulk demolition of 480 landmines, improvised explosives devices (IEDs), and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Yemen’s north-central Marib governorate.

In a statement, the leader Project Masam’s Special Task Team confirmed that the demolition process included all explosives that had been removed by the project’s engineering teams working in the Al-Wady district over the last period.

This is the 189th bulk demolition operation carried out by Project Masam in the Marib governorate since the beginning of the project in mid-June 2018.

Project Masam works on removing landmines, especially from high-impact areas, so that life – social, economic and cultural – can return to normal.

In alignment with the global mine action sector, Project Masam’s responsibilities include the clearance, removal or destruction of landmines stockpile and explosive remnants of war.

By destroying the explosive items, Project Masam ensures they can no longer function as designed – this effectively protects civilian populations and helps to eradicate these deadly weapons.
