The Governor of the eastern Yemeni province of Taiz has claimed that Project Masam continue to plays a major role in saving civilian lives.
The region is contaminated with landmines, explosive devices, and unexploded munitions, which pose a direct threat to innocent civilian populations.
The Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, alleged that Houthi militias have planted landmines “in a large and troubling manner and without any methodology, using [hiding] methods and in places that even Satan cannot detect”, which he said has resulted in tragic accidents.
Children and women have been killed on roads due to these landmines, the governor explained.
Shamsan added in an interview with Project Masam’s media team: “We know that mines are planted on roads, but we have not heard about planting landmines inside homes, water wells and many other places. Therefore, Masam’s adoption of the task of clearing [every[ Yemeni land of mines is considered an unusual gesture.
He added: “It is an important project as it plays a major role and represents a very urgent need for the Yemeni people. It is one of the most important projects being implemented in Yemen as it deals with the lives and souls of people.”
Shamsan explained that Project Masam has so far been able, in Taiz, to establish national teams from the people of the governorate, both at the administrative and executive level.
“Today, we have 14 demining experts who have been well-prepared and well-equipped, as well as two basic teams for carrying out these tasks,” he highlighted
These teams are currently working in the vicinity of Ibrahim Aqeel School and the areas adjacent to Taiz University – areas contaminated with landmines, explosive devices, and missiles.
The Governor of Taiz stressed that Project Masam is working hard in these areas, and it is currently moving to remove the rubble of destroyed schools.
Al-Shaab Akkad School, in Jabal Habashi District, was previously cleared; while the second team is also working in Mawza District to remove mines from this places, in addition to Mokha Directorate.
