Project Masam’s Team 26 has uncovered a large cache of mines and explosive devices in the Al-Maushij area of Al-Khokha District, Hudaydah Governorate, following a report submitted by local resident to the district’s security authorities.

According to Engineer Sami Saeed Haimed, Leader of Project Masam Team 26, the team immediately responded to a report by Ayyash Ali, and located a stockpile of explosives abandoned by Houthi militias after their withdrawal from the area. The cache contained 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), each weighing 10 kilos, along with two larger devices weighing 50 kilos, two missiles, and an anti-vehicle mine.

Heimid explained that such explosives were used by the militia to target vital facilities, including water projects, schools, and government buildings.

For his part, Lieutenant Qasim Al-Qurashi, commander of the Al-Maushij checkpoint, confirmed that the site was secured until the arrival of Project Masam’s team for clearance operations. He expressed his appreciation for the vigilance and cooperation of local residents.

Ayyash Ali added that the discovery was made by children grazing livestock, who came across suspicious objects and alerted adults. He emphasised that Project Masam’s explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) efforts played a crucial role in saving lives and reducing the threat posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance to local communities.

The Al-Khokha District, located on Yemen’s west coast, remains one of the areas most affected by landmine contamination due to years of conflict and shifting frontlines. Project Masam teams continue to respond to reports and conduct clearance operations to safeguard civilians and restore safety to the region.
